I was doing a multiplayer race this morning. We started with 5 players. One racer dropped out on the first lap. I was running in second place. About the time I got to the start/finish line to start the last lap. The racers in third and fourth position dropped out. I finished the race but didn’t get a medal since only two racers remained. This seems unfair to me. The majority of the race was done with enough racers so I should have gotten a medal. If I had dropped out, would the person who won the race still get a medal?
To add insult to injury, the two racers that dropped out late were in the lobby waiting for the next race. You can guess my opinion of those two.
I have an idea on how to handle this situation. The medals should be based on the number of cars that finish the first lap.
sometimes you want them to drop out. i have dropped out of maybe 5 races out of over 1,000. 3 times my batteries died. one was a crash to dashboard before the 1st turn, and once i loaded a 5 star tune racing the countdown timer. dont know if it was a drag or drift tune but it was not a circuit tune, the car could not take a corner. i would have taken out the field, it was very fast on the straights. i quit rather than being a crasher. one of the times my batteries died i was in 1st on the last lap. there are legit reasons for droping out, its the right thing to do for the other players. other times (crash to dash / dead battery / lost internet connection) they have no choice…and neither will you in that situation.
i have never seen a room get down to two players, i suspect there was a connection problem. dropping out on the 1st lap sounds like a crash to dash. two players dropping at the same time sounds like they lost connection. look at the board and see how many crash or wont even start threads/posts there are. forza is acting very buggy lately. there is a very good chance they were victims just as much as you. dont worry, you’ll get plenty of medals if you race enough and have good tunes. seems that alot of the time if you just keep your car on the track and pass people when they fly off trying to out brake the corner you’ll medal.
and yes i think if you dropped out the person in 1st still gets a medal. and i think medals should be based on how many start the race in public lobbies definantly even if they dont want it in private lobbies to prevent car clubs from starting, dropping out and joining another room, dropping joining another room, etc to farm gold medals/achievments.
This is an issue that needs to be addressed. No matter the reason for the drop the standings/medals should remain the same based on the amount of players that started the race. Also, DNFs should not take away a medal because you happened to be in a lobby with one ace and several wreckers.
Thanks for your replies. I appreciate the support. I think I will add this to the game features wish list.
I can understand having to drop out of a race. What happened while I was racing seemed odd. The person in third was driving hard and catching me. It looked like he might have a chance. I was watching the rear view mirror. I saw him crash in the turn before the start finish line. I felt sure I could stay ahead of him if I didn’t crash. The race was on a course I know well. It was 5 to 10 seconds after the crash the person dropped out.
The thing that upsets me is that I raced the two people that dropped out. I was starting lap 3 of 3. I was two thirds through the race when they left. I feel I was penalized for their behavior.
I don’t believe that the number of people who are on the starting line should determine the medals. I can see ways people could abuse that. I still believe the medals should be based on the number of cars that did some racing. It could either be on time on the course or distance raced.
I reread my initial post. I wasn’t suggesting I should have dropped out of the race to deny the leader his medal. I was wondering what would have happened if I was in the lead and everyone else dropped out.
I had a couple of races this morning crash to dashboard, so, I’ve learned not to jump to conclusions regarding dropouts.
Regarding the DNF and “Ace situation”, I had a couple of races this morning where I was the Ace…
(Pauses to give the room 30 seconds of laughter)
I know. I couldn’t believe it, either. Anyway, I had one where I was way ahead and then I stopped to park at the finish line for a bit until the second place guy got pretty close and then crossed. I did that to minimize DNFs. Do you guys do that, also, if you are the Ace in a race? Seems like good manners to me.
If it was up to me, I would have the medals based on who started the race.
I have had a couple of crashes to dashboard too. As I mentioned earlier, I can understand some drop outs occur that are not malicious. However, I raced the cars before they dropped out. I was ahead of them. Why should I be penalized if a car behind me dropped out whether it was malicious or a system glitch?
I had another drop out experience last night. There were 12 racers in the race. One dropped out early. The rest of us were still racing. I was a involved in good battle for second through fifth. I managed to finally get a good lead for second half way through the last lap. It looked like I was going to get a gold medal. The leader then crossed the finish line. Six drivers then dropped out. I got a silver medal. I got a medal, so I’m mostly happy. I don’t think this was a system issue. One of the drivers made a comment about being out of the medals and dropping out.
People are being punished by bad drivers or system glitches that are not their fault. This needs to be fixed.
