I’m about male ones (didn’t check females).
Seriously, they looks like imbeciles in cutscenes and at reward screen.
I’m assuming what if you lower brows a bit and make them to smile not so intensive, then they start looking as normal, healthy people.
And that at the same times when non players characters well animated and looks normal, with realistic face animations (at least in demo).
whats not awful^^ its realistic ^^
People dont make that face in real life. Dont know if anyone has friends or family who make those kind of face when they are first introducing themselves.
On the second picture there has to be some kind of substance in play or his face is tired.
On a positive note, they aren’t jumping around on one place, like they want to pee (looking at you FM7). I’ll take a goofy looking silly drivatar before a creepy looking maniac wearing a helmet.
It could be worse…

Maybe they’re extra-expressive to make up for being conspicuously mute in a racing game that inexplicably has 40 other characters which are all speaking roles
The NPC’s look so much better than the player, it is weeeird. Given Horizon’s track record of always improving features from game to game we’ll probably have a full fledged character creator in Horizon 5; still no stop to this hype train, can’t wait for next week!
Hopefully the devs will have a bit of time to put together a day-one patch to tweak the facial animations to not be quite so ridiculous. Given the uproar around ME:A for the terrible animations, I can see this potentially resulting in some cringe-worthy memes if it isn’t fixed right away.
Otherwise I’ll have to pretend that my avatar had some sort of head injury that gave him superpowers of being able to rewind time, but the side effects were these facial problems along with a weird compulsion to only buy LHD, US spec cars despite living in the UK.
