Double Standard

For the many times the nebulous and wide ranging Microsoft Terms of Service and the Forum Rules and Regulations have been levied upon forum members who have something negative to say about Microsoft or Turn 10, it seems that if you are slamming one of Turn 10 competitors, the rules are somewhat more relaxed.

Of course you don’t need credibility when all you have to do is push a button and make somebody go away.

Of course.

Sure, it may be and often times is, rude or inappropriate but Microsoft doesn’t want anything bad about them said on their medium. That just makes sense, and even then they let a lot go by. If you really wanted a level playing field as far as what got posted you’d be looking at a third party site and they have rules as well. Mainly it’s all about being civil and getting along.

If you say something rude or point something out they don’t like, even if backed up by evidence, you get a ban but not if it’s about another company. I believe that i they have these rules in place, and they enforce them when it comes to talk of Forza and Microsoft they should also enforce them when it comes to talk of others.

It is not that they don’t want anything negative said about them. It is more to do with how you say it and whether it is based on fact or opinion passed off as fact.

And trust me when I say it is possible to say something positive about Turn 10 and still have the moderators have something to say to you. Once again it gets back to how you say it and whether it starts to get personal with another member on the forum or if it falls into spamming or trolling behaviour.

When you have quite finished clutching your pearls, you might like to remember that we moderators are significantly outnumbered by posters and cannot see or respond to everything. Perhaps, in the future, instead of creating a new thread just to feign indignity, you might try being a responsible member of the community and reporting what you see is wrong so that it can be dealt with appropriately. When you’re not too busy being oppressed on a forum that is.

I’m not “feigning” anything. I am pointing out that people posting negative comments about Forza games are much more likely to come under “moderation” than those who praise Turn 10 and pile on anyone who has something to say they do not agree with. Sure, the moderators here may be outnumbered by posters, but they seem to do a pretty good job of controlling each and every thread that appears on this forum. The post with the clear profanity was there for days, no doubt it was seen by the people who run the forum.

I fully expect to be banned from the forum for this thread, not that big of a deal. I love cars and Forza 4 is one of my favorite games, but largely thanks to what I’ve experienced on this forum, I chose not to buy Forza 5. It may have superb graphics and wonderful gameplay, but as a paying customer, the most important thing for how I am treated by the company whose product I have purchased and I don’t see that here.

You can throw terms like “indignity” and “oppressed” around with impunity, knowing I will not be permitted to respond in kind and that you and any of the other moderators can accuse me of anything you’d like with the knowledge I am forbidden to say anything about them. Seems like indignant righteousness.

Posted two days ago in one of the Off Topic forums that I glance through only a couple times a month at best. Perhaps one of the other moderators visits it with more frequency but you would have to ask them. You posted this thread yesterday, a day after the profanity in question, while also quoting said profanity for the record. Had you actually reported the profanity, instead of taking the time to post this thread, one of us moderators might have gotten to it yesterday and saved countless dozens from being exposed to it.

Criticism of Turn 10 and any of their titles is always welcome and there are hundreds of threads that will testify to that fact. What isn’t welcome is bashing with no purpose, defamation and uncivil behaviour which is quickly met with locks and hammers and will continue to be so. It’s never what someone has to say that is the problem, it is, without fail, the way in which they choose to share that opinion that leads to trouble.
