Doodley Gone - RIP Steve

I’ve just now received this shocking and heartbreaking message from one of Steve’s children. It reads:

" To all of you who know Doodly Squat, you should know that on 4/30/2014 at approximately 9:00am Steven Anthony Brieno, my Father, passed away of a massive heart attack. RIP My Loving Father"

This is tragic news for all of us who have had the joy of knowing Steve. He was a spiritual man of great compassion.
Forza will never be the same without him.

My prayers and thoughts are with Steve’s family and loved ones.

Goodbye my friend,

Oh man…I didn’t want to believe it and then I got the same message… I’m crushed and my heart aches for his family and those who were close to him. He has done so much for this community, DL K and for me…
On special holidays he would always send great reminders of his friendship. This one from our recent Easter holiday I will remember forever:

“Today my family & I celebrate Easter, Why? For us it is the assurance of our Salvation & gives us great joy. Please, do not take offence, I just wanted you to know that YOU are part of my joy. YOU are my friend & for that I am thankful. Happy Easter”

May God be with your soul my friend…for you are in a better place.

With Deepest Sympathy,

Lou

My heart goes out to Doodley’s family. This is tragic news. Doodley always so willing to help out and remind people of the goings on inside at DLK. I will always miss his fun sense of humor, and our great times racing, and his acceptance of my accidental contact from Platy-ing around
Rest in Peace my friend

Wow, I must admit I did not know him well but I’m fairly sure we raced at a DLK Nascar Night at least once. A sudden unexpected death certainly sucks and my heart goes out to his family for sure.

For those of you who never got the chance to know Dood, I’d like to give a little insight into the man Steve was.

I haven’t shared this with any of my Forza family before this moment. A few weeks ago, I lost my sister out of the blue. Kathy and I were always very, very close. I was then, and remain, devastated by the loss. Steve is the only person here who knew about it. He was so kind, considerate and gentle. Every day, Dood would check on me and offer words of support. His genuine concern for me was most touching. It helped me a great deal. I am forever grateful to him.

He was truly a great man. Far better than I. When I griped that a certain player was hounding me for a DLK paint, Steve replied: “Ah, he’s alright”. That was Steve. Wouldn’t say an unkind word about anyone.

He was a dedicated family man. Both to his real family and to our Forza family. I can only speculate the effort he put into the Spring Blowout last weekend and the regular photo comps every month. When I suggested to him recently that perhaps the return on investement for him wasn’t worth the time and effort, he laughed it off in his usual easy going manner. He loved you people and we loved him.

If you are very fortunate, you will meet a very small number of people like Steve in your lifetime. I was blessed by having the chance to know him. His passing will leave a hole in the lives of everyone he touched.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Totally shocked like everyone else. Also just getting to know him, mainly through the DLK comps, and he always went out of his way to help me, given the time difference between our countries. From the small chats we had I knew he was a top bloke.

Friends, I would like to start putting together a “Victory Lap” Celebration Session in Doodley’s memory. Probably more like a few so we can all be there and share our fun experiences and memories of our friend and comrade.

I won’t take up space with details here but will make a thread in the Racer’s Lounge for it.

Thanks guys,

My thoughts and Prayers go out to Doodley and his family. Please forward our condolences if you have the personal contact. I have run on the edges of the circles Doodley frequented and he was always the kind gentle helpful guy in the background. His spiritual life was an inspiration. My sympathy and condolences for all of those who will miss him like I will.

RIP Steve
