Dolby Atmos sound in Forza Motorsport 7

I’m just curious about support of Dolby Atmos for both XBOX ONE S and XBOX ONE X. Can we hope to hear it in new game?

Here you go. The answer is yes.

I know that Dolby Atmos is already supported by Microsoft on both PC and XBOX! Its working for films (when the right audio track is there) and games. But there are no games yet that support this format. The first one will be Gears of War 4 after 4k patch in november. Will Forza support dolby atmos?

I’m actually curious about the surround sound system in FM7 in general. I have an arcam with 2× 2.5 feet tall Dynaudios, 2× 2.5 feet tall quadrals and 4x 1.5 feet tall quadrals and a 1 cubic foot aram soobwofer. The best sounding game was actually Forza 5 in my opinion, the sound of the wind especially as you passed under a bridge or a sign was incredible. The bass in Forza 6 was only pressent in Forza Vista mode unfortunately, as unlike Forza 5 running onto the kerb there was no bass at all. When it comes to surroubd sound I actually dislike bass which is why I like my arcam as it only gives you bass when it’s told but in Forza 6 the only time there was any was when you revved the cars in Forza Vista and let them drop to isle, that’s when the bass kicked in. Forza 5 had the best sounding effects by far in a Forza title so I’m curious if Dolby atmos will make a difference. Hopefully so.

Ah, you have a keen ear for these things, friend, as do I!

In my very humble opinion, I also feel Forza 5 had the best sound stage. I don’t even game on a surround system, rather a digital stereo 8-speaker system set up in a surround field and FM5 just sounded unbelievably good. Very life-like, just incredible. The mids, highs and lows were just right - I truly felt like I was on a track, IN the race. Forza 6 scaled back the sound with the car notes taking a hit and the ambient/reverb effects not as good. However, your comment on FM6 having bassy notes only in Forzavista left me confused; if anything, FM6 has bassier exhaust notes when you shift to the chase cam.

Anyhow, I just want to quickly ask you what am I missing by not getting a 7.1 system? I mean aside from the directional audio, do the cars actually sound better or have a higher sampling quality compared to a regular amp? Do the cars sound less compressed? Just very curious so as to know if the investment is truly worth it. I.e. is the difference the same as going from SD to HDTV?

Sorry, too many questions I know!

Sounds like you guys got it made. I have old Klipsch speakers if I ever wanted to do surround but I have to run the games on headphones so my wife won’t complain.

My wife can stand only 30 minutes when i play forza on reciver. Then either volume needs to be made less loud or headphones  .The worst is when i drive round tracks - 5 minutes of loud play than.

I’m pretty sure during Bill Giese’s segment in today’s livestream that he stated Atmos is not supported.

It might not support it, but having an Atmos headset, with the atmos app on the 1X, and I must say, the difference over not having Atmos, is huge.

Demo of FM7 did’t support it, so I’m sure Full Version didn’t support it either. Don’t know why still no games yet avaliable on XBOX ONE, tha support ATMOS.

I know that the X1X will support Dolby Atmos but I was wondering if Forza 7 will support it. That would be awesome!

I don’t think that Forza 7 will be any different on Xbox One X in terms of sound. I think, that it can be patched in future, but don’t have much hope in it. Maybe Forza 8 or next horizon game will support it at start.

As I understand it this game does not support Atmos, however I have the Headphones for Dobly Atmos enabled in my settings, and it makes the sound amazing in Forza 7. Is that because of the Atmos setting somehow or am I just listening to the Normal 7.1 Signal? Hopefully I’m making sense lol, figured I’d try and ask maybe someone knows…thanks!

edit: Ok after some research it turns out only Gears 4 and maybe OVerwatch are the only 2 games that support Atmos, so no point really in using it with this game I think I’ll stick with Windows Sonic

I tried Dolby Atmos earlier this month and didn’t like it. I use a pair of 7.1 surround headphones. The front left and front right channels in Dolby Atmos are messed up, sound coming out of these 2 channels sound like they are coming out of the surround left and surround right channels. Windows Sonic as well as the built-in Dolby Surround decoder in my headphones’ receiver don’t have this problem their sound sources positioning are accurate.

That’s weird. Sid you turn off the processing in your headphone base? If not it can over process the signal and cause anomolies

Doesn’t matter for this game. They don’t have the channels programmed effectively anyway. This game doesn’t use the entire front sound stage, center channel mainly, and all the cars lack any frequency below about 200htz, effectively making the sub channel useless except for menu sounds. I’d settle for proper 5.1…

With the exception of the menus…there’s a good amount of low frequencies when navigating those for some reason. Not too much in game though. I remember driving the Dodge Dart super stock on 5 and it rumbling all over the place but not in this game :frowning:

Ya, it’s completely gone. Just isn’t an issue Turn10 or most players really don’t care about.

Yeah it really is a shame. The sound was something spectacular before with 4 and 5, so much so that I would often go into free play just to listen to them. Upsetting now since I’ve finally built a proper theater system which I use to play in and could utilize the frequency ranges.

What all sounds are expected overhead in a racing game?
