It’s all about the race length, not the grid size. Forza’s races are so short they encourage dive bombing to take positions in a large field, leading to more crashes.
I’m in a club running 1.5 hr endurance races with a full grid once a week for the past 7+ months, and while there’s racing incidents here and there, it’s mostly clean. Longer races allow time to be patient rather than making risky moves.
Wow no wonder the series is moving sideways. For years everyone asked for bigger grids… now we have them and then woops noone wants that theres too many cars on track and i cant win… the problem is the short races not the amount of cars. 3 laps isnt a race
Well, everyone asked about night races, and do I like night races? Nope. Not even a bit
Though agree about race length. When I changed the length of races to “Long”, 24 cars grid suddenly started make sense. Without hustle there are much less crashes, I stay in the pack and attack more thoughtfully when opportunity presents itself. Actually, I like this long races more, than 8 cars/3 laps
I can’t seem to find other people having the issue I do but I figure here would be a good place to start asking. Does anybody have an idea why my quick race races have only me in them with no drivatars? It won’t let me change the number from zero so I’m trying in the advanced setting to add or subtracts teams and buckets abut nothing changes. Thanks!
The problem is not with the grid size, but the grid competence. Short races in online compound the problem by decreasing the opportunities to make a move for the win. Short races in career compound the problem because the drivatars do not behave in expected or explainable ways and often shoot out in front with incredible speed early in only to slow down towards the end.
The grid size is a symptom, not the problem. Even in races online with only 6 people in them there will still be a wreck at turn 1. And in career mode the challenge would be diminished by lack of competition, but the drivatar behavior would be the same.
If the AI is improved, and some form of incentive for fair play online is implemented, a 24 player grid would feel underpopulated. I’m not sure what the solution is but limiting grid size because of frustrating AI and online behavior will not stop the bad behavior. Just hide it in a more empty room.
I’m fine with 24. If you aren’t chances are you might be part of the problem and you don’t respect those around you as well as taking stupid aggressive risks that you shouldn’t
It depends on the track. I would love 40 cars around spa in a multi class race given the option but 24 is way to much for some of the short one mile tracks. I never had any issues with the AI, they behave better than many in multiplayer that’s for certain.
I don’t mind the 24 cars, but I hate that there’s no qualifying (at least the FM series should have such a thing). If you want to beat the rest on higher difficulties, you only can go Mad Max style and ram your way to the front positions or you increase lap numbers. Both not very satisfying.
I disagree, setting the difficulty high and chasing down the leaders bit by bit each lap can be very satisfying. I got shunted to the back of the pack of an Extra Long Unbeatable rainy Suzuka race due to no rewinds and had to pit for damage after only lap 5, I then spent the next ~20 laps hunting down the pack and picking them off one-by-one as they hit their pit window, I got past the leader with a couple of laps left and had ~2% fuel left in the tank, was one of the most intense and yet satisfying races I have ever done in Forza (not just FM7)
absolutely HATE 24 cars racing…it’s so stupid especially when there’s only 3 laps and you ALWAYS start either last or in middle…by the time i fight my way to 6th place the 1st and second cars are so far away it’s impossible to catch up to them and win the race…this kind of thing should not exist in career mode.
You can also control (by category) the length of races in career mode. Back when I was playing it, I routinely set mine to one of the 2 highest lengths. Removes the pressure of the being forced to fight through the turn 1 for a position that keeps you in striking distance of the podium (don’t play thinking you must always win), and gives plenty of time to systematically work your way forward in a more realistic fashion.
