I recently sent an email to Turn 10 at Microsoft regarding the system where even when you buy DLC car packs with actual USD in real life. Then, to actually own, drive, and modify the cars you bought with real USD (be it with PayPal, MSP, or whatever), you have to use in-game credits to purchase them. What?
Okay, first of all, one of my XBL buddies told me that, supposedly, Microsoft issued an update for Forza Horizon that patched the system that forces you to use IGC (earned by racing) or tokens (which are also, again, purchased with real USD).
Is this true? Does this update exist? If so, I wasn’t notified what the last update for Horizon installed/patched, which was about two months ago. Now, I guess I’ll have to buy a DLC pack to find out, but I’d rather have someone else verify that this “update” was put into the market for download.
First off, using IGC is part of the game (and is the same for the cars you paid real money for on the disc).
Second, T10 changed this in Forza 5 and I don’t recall anything about it being changed in the past games (games which are not likely to see any more updates/DLC/changes for what remains of their life spans.
I understand using IGC is part of the game because I own every car that comes with the stock disc (except the tow Ferrari 250s in the Autoshow). Why would I have to use earned credits if I’m paying actual USD to be able to even access the DLC cars? I assume it’s all for the money. T10 probably incorporated the token system for they money as well, as you have to pay USD for those, too.
I don’t own an Xbox One, and probably never will. I hope they come up with an update for FH that patches this system. Heh, yeah, they fix up F5 DLCs where you don’t have to pay IGC to access them, but they don’t release an update for FH that does the same. What a joke.
I honestly believe that if the developers release an update for FH like they implemented in F5, I’d be rather ecstatic, maybe even to an extent that I’d spend money on a Xbox One to play the newer Forza games.
Just a thought, if any developer is reading this: I think you lost quite a few Forza players by releasing F5 only for Xbox One.
I think the reason this was changed in FM5 had to do with two factors. First, the IGC pricing on cars in FM5 was outrageous before the patch altered them. Second, IGC is harder to come by in FM5. You get a paltry 12k credits for finishing a series, and depending on your assists, you might get 5-12k per individual race. If you don’t have the VIP membership, you only receive 35k each time you gain a driver level. While the VIP membership doubles it, it still takes several hours to earn the kind of credits you can get in only a few races in FM4 or FH.
As for buying cars in-game with credits or tokens, that’s your choice. Each game we’ve been able to earn enough credits to use them to purchase cars, and that is how the download content has been handled. It is NOT new to FM5.
Not that it much matters, because any console change leaves a few players behind for a while, but the same happened from the original Xbox to the Xbox 360, from PS1 to PS2, etc., and when the game is developed with all the new criteria on the new platform, there is no choice but to move forward. It would really be silly to create FM5 for Xbox One and then go back to an older platform re-written for the Xbox 360 standards.
I can’t understand the problems with spending IGC for cars that you have bought for hard earned cash.
It is part of the fun trying to earn enough credits to buy that special car.
