Hi Guys,
Just wondering if there is any advantage in running either cosmetic or simulation for rivals mode? In particular, although you’ll get tyre wear with simulation, is there any advantage to be had with the weight of the fuel reducing over time? Or is fuel weight really not a factor in this game and instead it’s better to stick with cosmetic and drive around with a new set of tyres?

I usually run cosmetic on rivals. Main reason is when you are pushing your car really hard it is easy to touch the grass and start smashing stuff damaging your car requiring you to pit. To avoid this turn on cosmetic and if you do wreck it just ruins that lap not your car. Less time wasted this way
I don’t understand why you don’t just hit rewind…
automatic dirty lap and rhythem breaking. your subconscious is lazy in that it gravitates toward efficiency. max gain for min work. if it learns rewind works it wont learn to avoid the crash. punishment really does help you learn faster and as long as smacking the wall is punishment it will avoid getting punished. taking away all the punishment also takes away a lot of the motivation to do better. you get your best times when you are in the zone, when you aren’t thinking you are just reacting. that happens when you have trained enough that it becomes reflex. do you want your reflex to become “miss the wall” or “hit rewind”?
If you wreck then your lap is dirty anyways. I don’t personally think that rewinding is a huge issue, but to each their own.
As for sim/cosmetic, I’d never use sim for hotlapping.
I don’t know what is best but I run cosmetic.
in past forzas sim was the way to go. you ran out of fuel faster than tires so your fastest lap was the lap right before you pit, about 5% faster. i ran out of tire before gas in fm5 with the modern indy car and didn’t notice gaining any speed from the loss of fuel weight. i used the ariel atom to get the running out of gas badge and didn’t notice my lap times falling even tho i ran out of gas before tires. so i’m thinking cosmetic will be as fast or faster, unless there is a magical tune out there or something. there may be a tune that saves the tires much more than the fuel so you could gain some time but i haven’t found it yet. and if you get in the zone you wont have to pit and break your rhythm, you can keep lapping and whittling that time down. i wont claim sim isn’t faster in fm5 too, but its not happening to me. i may not have the skill tuneing or driving to get it tho. if there is a benifit to sim this time it either wont be near as much or require near perfection to achieve.

I always seem to manage better times when I run cosmetic. Could just be coincidence.
If you want to experience a quick example, run one of the leaderboard drag tire circuit tunes. The tire drop off is crazy.
