OK guys I have 2 builds for the Chevelle. One has 532 hp and 590 torq. and weighs 3661 lbs. The other has 565 hp and 627 torque but weighs 3853 lbs. That’s 192 lbs difference. Do you think the power is worth the weight? 33hp and 37 torque difference. This is for D Dlass.
Hi Goonies!
I replied to a post days back regarding a quick build test I conducted on a car to determine weight versus acceleration. The car with the least weight (about 240 lbs less) won on the track, even though it had less grip/compound and less power. It also depends on which track you will be racing the car. BTW, in my case it was for C-class and my understanding is that weight is not as big a factor on D-class versus moving up in classes. Do you need more (Catalunya National) or less torque, or, more power (LeMans)?

Your example is very close! Look at the accel numbers on the stats to help guide your decision. I would almost be inclined to go with the lower weight version, gut feel.
Good luck!
My times were almost identical. The biggest problem I have is putting the power down out of the turn. I’ve tried raising the acceleration and softening the rear springs. I have to barely give it throttle or else the back end brakes loose. If I could get the power down sooner I would be pretty happy with the car.
Build it as light as possible, try this one and see what you think.
What a difference! I am really ready to give up on building and tuning. Shaved a second off my time, possibly more! Great job Foot! On another note, our tune really isn’t that much different.
Give my chevelle a run if you would like as well… search ERS in the description. Thats one of my favorite cars. Most recent tune date i need to take the other ones down but people keep driving them lol
Also light is always good in these old muscle cars.
Will do Johnson. I need to work on the Cougar too. Currently the car I’m using for Career.
I have an A class one of those if you so happen to need one.
They are some very large HP numbers for D class. In my experience with D class, loading up on HP rarely, if ever, works well. Except for Lemans tunes. With those HP numbers, I’m sure you have little to no grip in the car at all. In that class, I think grip/handling is something that can not be overlooked. High HP muscle cars don’t usually fare well in D class because they lose far too much speed in the corners to the Minis, Celica, Mugens, etc. All that power is negated by all the sliding around. wheel spinning, and long braking distance. While you’re searching for traction coming through a turn, the smaller, more nimble cars, are already halfway down the next straight away. They work ok on a few tracks, but aren’t very competitive on most tracks in D class. That’s why the Mini dominates that class as thoroughly as it does.
Just my opinion…
The secret of d class muscle cars is the aero. All of my “D” muscle car times have the forza aero dropped all of the way. If possible you should use the 5.7l and be fully weight reduced. If I remember correctly I was using street cages or no cages in all of my muscle cars ( I don’t think I ever decided which is better). I shared my chevelle that I used on Silverstone national and possibly Sebring short(top 5 on both after 4 months). the stats of mine are 443hp 442 lb-ft, 2828lbs. I believe most of my muscle cars are shared, there all just 2min base tunes tho.
This man knows his things.
I second that. Never really liked these cars till i tried his d class nova. Great car.
Thanks for the input guys!
