I just purchased Forza 5 about a week ago. It’s the first racing game I’ve played since the Sega Genesis days. So far, I am loving it, overall, but I have an issue that is starting to drive me mad. Throughout races in various vehicles, my car(s) will stop taking gas and slow down. Now, if this only happened in curves, I could understand since I have that assist on. Yet it happens coming out of curves, when I should be speeding up, and it even happens in straight stretches. This has been causing me to drop several spots in races in the D, C, and now B class races, and makes it almost impossible to finish in the top 3. I don’t think it’s a car issue, though it might be some other spec, but it happens with MANY different cars. I have the Drivatar skill on High, +20%, and for Assists, I only have Lines off and Steering set to Simulation.
I have hit Google pretty hard over the last couple days, but this appears to be MY problem and mine alone. I can’t find a single reference to this issue anywhere. Does anyone out there have ANY idea what I could be doing wrong or perhaps some suggestions of things I could try to troubleshoot the issue?
My guess it is auto brake - it tends to hit the brakes at the most random spots.
As a new-comer to the franchise I would recommend your assists are:
Brakes - ABS On
Steering - Normal
Line - Braking Only
Traction - TCS On, STM Off
These will give you the best combination of the support needed to ease you into the game, but enough control that the game isn’t doing it all for you. Then slowly start to turn things off, except Sim steering, unless you have a wheel - if you use a pad then leave that on normal.
after a bit try Manuel gears you will find it quicker. and if that feels good then try clutch. you will only know you can do it if you try . its also a lot better when using clutch if you change the clutch button to the A button in control settings it makes gear change and clutch in one movement.
Actually I find sim steering much more satisfying/realistic (take your pick) even on a controller.
You gotta be smooth with the stick though.
As others have said, brake assist and STM are definite time-wasters- Use the STM that’s in your left thumb, and brake assist is in your left index finger, alongside the ABS module. There’s a TCS in your right index, but it can be hard to find at times.
Turning car lovers into gamers blah blah blah - making it super easy for beginners. Totally miffed that all options to control your game settings were off limits from the first race.
I turn assists off the first chance I get in racing games, but one time I was racing and it felt like my car was randomly losing power. I thought maybe I damaged something on the car but I looked at telemetry and saw no damage. I then looked at assists afterward and saw that brake assist was on. That made no sense since I had previously turned it off and raced without it, but the game evidently forgot about that. Anyway, the issue with the car randomly slowing sounds identical to my issue - brake assist.
It is good that the game is easier for new players. It allows my son to play and have fun with it. As for me I turn all assists off except auto clutch. So you can customize your difficulty settings to suite your tastes. I do agree that they should not have thrown you into the first race without giving you the chance to change the settings to your liking. And if you are using a controller set your steering to normal, simulation is for a wheel.
I’d like to thank everyone for their responses. The braking assist being fully on was indeed the problem, however with just ABS on, I have a new problem: I suck at curves
I think I can get better at curves though, there wasn’t much I could do when my car slowed down on its own. Thanks again for the responses, I should be beating some of you in multi-player in no time!
