Now that I have seen the most recent horizon 2 video, I am concerned over the upgrade system. cars like the McLaren p1 and the Laferrari are rated 998, which would suggest that we cant do anything like adding race tyres or weight reduction to them. The Veyron SS is rated 990, which means there is barely any room for engine modification - which is disappointing. Do you think that cars aren’t as upgradable or maybe the upgrades increase the PI by a much smaller amount?
Because of the modified PI system, I would expect several S2 (it’s probably the highest class in the game) 999 (possibly, could be 998) cars in the game, fully upgraded. I do expect a good range of upgrades, even for the high PI cars.
I believe there will be performance parts for the high performance cars such as the P1 and LaFerrari. I have a feeling that 998 may just be the highest PI in the game and although you continue to upgrade the car, the PI stays the same. Similar to the U (Unlimited) class in Forza 2, or the X class in Forza 3-4, etc.
so how are the car classes going to work in the game? are we using forza 5 class of cars or making up a brand new class system for the cars? because why is there a S2 class in forza 5? is it going to be different in the 360 version because they are using the same engine?
Player since forza 3… and from what I am aware of, cars that reach 999 PI can barely be upgraded anymore. forza 5 - the E21 can barely be upgraded. forza 4 - LMP1 cars can barely be upgraded with exception of tire width, similar story with forza 3… it is obvious that once said PI is reached you can barely upgrade cars.
Isn’t that more to do with the nature of R1 cars though? I mean, cars that go that fast already have state-of-the-art parts and are gutted beyond comprehension. It’s practically impossible to make these cars faster than the world-class mechanics behind them have already crafted them to be.
There’s not an S2 class in Forza 5. The class system is modified because of the general lack of race cars. So, there’s no R, P, or X class in Horizon 2. The S class in Horizon 2 seems similar to the R classes in Motorsport 2/3/4/Horizon 1, just with only an S1 and S2 class in Horizon 2, instead of the 3 R classes in 3/4/Horizon 1 (4 in Motorsport 2). The 360 version does have the Horizon 1 engine, just with a few tweaks to make it look more like the One version, one of those tweaks is the class system presented in the One version.
This posted while I was typing my post. I do remember the S1 and S2 classes being on there but wanted something to back up what I remembered. Other than that, it seemed like the traditional PI system with letters and numbers.
I was hoping to post a screenshot from the 8+ minute video from YouTube, but it has recently been taken down. In that video, it showed the carbuying process, including sorting by class and it had all of the classes in there. The shortened version of the video does not have that segment.
I can’t remember what they all were… does anyone recall?
What worries me is how high the Performance Index for the S2 cars were. I remember from the video that a Ferrari Enzo started off at 925. There was another car that started off at 995 or 998, which I believe was a Koenigsegg but I’m not 100% sure.
The Ferrari Enzo in Horizon 1 was rated 728 and was an R3. It could be upgraded all the way into R1 (900+). Having the Enzo rated 925 means that either the cars cannot be upgraded very much, or the cars can go beyond 999PI. This could mean three things:
S2 (essentially R3) is the highest class of car we can drive, and no car can exceed 999PI.
S2 is the highest class of car we can drive, but the cars can go over 999PI and stay in S2.
The cars can be upgraded beyond 999PI, and go into a class of car not visible on the buy page (presumably because there are no cars to buy beyond S2).
I sincerely hope that is either the first or third option. If it is the second option, any racing beyond S1 cars will not be balanced since the class will be irrelevant at that point as the PI is unlimited and therefore some cars will be outright superior to others, whereas S1 and A class etc are balanced by having a maximum PI.
If I were to guess, I’d say that the cars he was looking at were all auto-upgraded to the top of their class (S2). This is similar to FM5 where if you purchase a car from the career event menu instead of the usual “Buy Cars” area, it auto-upgrades the vehicle to match the restrictions of that particular set of events. It would be pretty ridiculous for a stock Aventador to only be a few PI shy of a Veyron, Hennessey and P1.
… (O),(O) but… but what happened to R2? so they shortened the car classes to only 6 classes? that is kinda like putting a professional soccer player in a high school match. am I getting this correct?
It’s diffecult to compare Horizon 2’s classes to either Horizon 1’s or FM’5’s., as they have changed multiple things in Horizon 2 (at least according to that video, which has now been taken down and re-uploaded without the part where he buys cars). I have done my best to explain how they have changed by creating these charts.
This is how the classes look next to each other if I match them up by Performance index (Pi) :
Horizon 1 classes: ------ Motorsport 5 classes: ------ Horizon 2 classes:
------------------- … X ( … >999Pi … ) … --------- ? -------
R1 (901Pi - 999Pi) … P (901Pi - 998Pi) … S2 (901Pi - 999Pi)
R2 (801Pi - 900Pi) … R (801Pi - 900Pi) … S1 (801Pi - 900Pi)
R3 (701Pi - 800Pi) … S (701Pi - 800Pi) … A . (701Pi - 800Pi)
S … (601Pi - 700Pi) … A (601Pi - 700Pi) … B … (601Pi - 700Pi)
A … (501Pi - 600Pi) … B (501Pi - 600Pi) … C … (501Pi - 600Pi)
B … (401Pi - 500Pi) … C (401Pi - 500Pi) … D … (… ? … - 500Pi)
C … (301Pi - 400Pi) … D (… - 400Pi) … --------------------
D … (201Pi - 300Pi) … D (… - …) … --------------------
E … (100Pi - 200Pi) … D (100Pi - …) … --------------------
The actual letters are partially irrelevant as they have been changed around throughout the series and with each installment (For example, A-class in FM5 is equivalent to S-class in Horizon 1).
However, what is interesting is how highly rated (Pi-wise) the cars in Horizon 2 are (at least going by the video that was put up).
For example, the Ferrari Enzo was shown to be rated as a 925Pi on the buy screen in the video. It is rated far lower in H1 and FM5 (728Pi and 719Pi respectively). However, It is possible that upgrades had been automatically applied before purchase (as this happens in FM5 when you purchase a car from the event buy screen), which would explain the high Pi rating. However, it didn’t seem as though he was currently in an event when he went to the buy screen (which is in the pause menu), it seemed as though he just went there straight from free-roam. If he wasn’t in an event, we assume upgrades would not be auto-applied, and the 925Pi rating represents the stock Enzo. Also, when the cars auto-upgrade from the event buy screen in FM5, it upgrades them to the top of the event class Pi limit (925Pi is not the Pi limit for S2, I assume).
However, there is another ‘however’. There is the possibility that he was actually in an S2 event, and so upgrades could have been auto applied, but the reason it was only rated 925Pi and not 999Pi (the S2 class limit, I assume) was because 925Pi is the highest rating the Enzo can achieve once fully upgraded. This could explain why all the other cars that were shown also had such a Pi rating in comparison to the previous games (I can’t use them as examples for comparison, as I cannot remember exactly what the Pi rating was for the other cars).
If the video clip you’re referencing was still available online, we could analyze it and retrace the steps this guy took to access the vehicle purchase screen; but because the video has been removed, it’s hard to say what exactly he was doing at the time. Also, you can’t make direct comparisons to FM5’s options and menus (referring to the exact process of purchasing auto-upgraded cars) because it’s a completely different game that only shares certain elements with the former.
That being said, I’m still inclined to believe that the cars in that clip (from memory: Enzo, Aventador, Veyron, Venom, LaFerrari, P1, Veneno, Agera, Ultima) were probably auto-upgraded for him. It just seems to make the most sense because of cars like the Enzo and Aventador seemingly sharing a class with a Venom and P1.
There appears to be 25 unlockable perks in the game as seen in a video posted by Inside Sim Racing last month. The scope of every perk is unknown at this time, but perhaps one of these unlocks the ability to auto-upgrade a car to its max for no additional cost when purchasing it from the dealer/showroom. Of course I could be completely off, but it’s something to consider until more information is revealed to us.
