I am new to the X Box One x and Forza 7. Have loaded disc and done massive download, game looks great in 4K but cannot steer using standard controller …just a touch of left stick sends car into barriers or off track. I assume a set up issue or in worst case a controller fault.

If you are running Simulation steering in your assists, turn it down to Normal steering.
Try driving a slower vehicle to get a feel for the handling model. From the sound of it you’ve jumped into a formula car and binned it more than your fair share.
