Hi, just a couple of quick questions from someone that’s never played Forza games before…
I seem to come in poor position in races sometimes yet still pass the event. Is there no penalty to losing? Is there any reason to go back and try for a better position?
Secondly, what is the purpose of so many cars? I’m not too far in to the game but I got given a lambo and it seems to do just fine for every event… Doesn’t matter if it’s a circuit race or an off-road cross country event or whatever - I can still win the race as it always puts me against similar cars. Why would I ever need to change to a different car if I can do everything with 1 car? Will this situation change as I progress?
Lastly what are the significance of the ranks of the cars such as S1, A etc? Clearly higher ranks seem to be faster cars but how does that tie in to the gameplay? I always just get matched against similar cars anyway so what is the gameplay purpose of these ranks?
Regular events offer a lot of flexibility for players to pick the car they want to drive and compete with similar car types or performance levels. The types and performance levels are used for more specific focus in the Seasonal Championships, where you may be limited to a specific class and type combination. Your Lambo won’t work in the current Autumn season events for example. The events in the Rivals menu are also limited to specific cars to focus more on the difference in player skill level when on a level playing field.
What Horizon does is allow you to set most of the terms of your events so you can play the way you want to play. You may not have to switch out of your Lambo most of the time, but you have that option if you want to try out different cars for different handling characteristics, sound, photos, brand favoritism, etc.
The advice above is top notch. You can race a favorite, or you can go by mood. Different performance classes yield different outcomes. An S2 extreme offroad will give a much different race than a bone stock willy cross country. A classic muscle different than a hypercar.
So the general events like above states, you can choose the race you want. My friends and I have different cars for the seasons.
As more custom races develop, then a person has even more considerations. Currently there is a contest for routes and potential for seasons to feature player events. Personally I am focusing on highly themed routes. Trying to make use of the more interesting sub selections other than just chassis type.
So as the game goes, expect to see more races with more variety of rides used.
Different cars for seasons and/or race type is absolutely correct. I have winter cars that have winter tires. I can use some of those cars for dirt racing. I have road cars for street or road racing and finally cross country SUVs. I have a go-to car for each class and each season. Some people are too in a hurry to get online and race when you can take an hour to set up all your main vehicles for combat
Thanks for the replies. So I guess for now I should just race in whatever I want and have fun with that until I get to a point where the game starts asking me to use more specific cars and classes?
