68 Dart track build opinions

I’ve spent hours tuning my Dart. I got the Hemi and the drive train tuned exactly the way I want but I’m tryin to squeeze just a little more cornering performance out of it. Its lowered as low as it can with the headers dragging. Stiff sway bar links. Negative camber of .7 front and back for the understeer issues. I’m usually great with tuning but this car evades me somehow. Any thoughts?

If you could post some details about the class, build, and rest of the tune, we can help you out.

Ok. S-class 698 rating. As far as performance everything that could be bought has. 6 speed slightly shortened 5th and 6th gears I think I added .02 to each and since this particular car(with Hemi equipped) can only handle about 200mph this along with lowered diff hits 200 just before the 6th gear redline. 3.60 diff lock up setting in diff is 80% accel 45% decel I stiffened the sway bars to 28.50 front 25.50 rear. I was satisfied with the stock tuning of spring stiffness, bump stiffness and rebound stiffness. Brake bias set to 48% front with 120% brake force. Should I play with the suspension stiffness maybe? Another thing is I’m trying to work around excessive down force. I’d like to keep it right around the middle point between speed and cornering though if it comes down to it I’ll compromise.

In any muscle car, you’ll always want to run full aero in B class and above. The added handling far outweighs the little acceleration you gain from taking aero off.

So I ran it for a few days with the full aero. Can’t do it Its too drastic of a change the handling has become to different from what I’m used to and it feels a lot slower(maybe it’s just me), and to put it bluntly I don’t agree with your statement that’s really not how a muscle car is meant to handle. I like being able to throw it around turns I just want it to be more stable in the entry and coming out.

Muscle Cars in real life and the game are about as low drag as a barn and have the aero lift of a 747. There are no downsides to running aero on those cars other than for aesthetic reasons.

With an 80% diff accel setting are you breaking the rear tires loose throttling out of the turns??

Yeah a decent bit but I’ve been turning that to advantage the darts pretty good with throttle steering. But if I don’t catch it just right it understeers

It doesn’t matter if it’s meant to handle that way - it’s how it works in the game. To get the most out of a muscle car, especially in S class, you have to learn to run full aero or you’re losing time. There’s no way around it. Aero increases the stability of a car exactly the same way as how you desire it to, so I don’t see how the car got any worse.

I’d like to contest this full aero logic. Before I start I’m not picking an argument just stating analysis based on my personal findings. The full aero does help a lot with the handling I’ll level on that, and I think I could learn to use it, but I really don’t want to. I took the Dart on the topgear track and ran 1.3 seconds faster on average( the average being out of ten laps on both half aero and full aero respectively) with a consistency margin of 2.1 seconds on the half aero. I do like the improved handling of full aero but the results don’t lie, I’m running faster without the extra aero. I do plan to test this on separate tracks, I ran better on the brickyard with full so it’s not like I never use it, it just doesn’t work for everything. So I guess I’m saying I’ll leave like it is and I apologize !or wasting everyone’s time. Good racing!!

If it works for you, use it how you have it. However, the car has more raw potential with full aero when in that high of a class, but raw potential isn’t important if you’re not fond of running it that way.

i use aero on all my muscle cars in A class. they come stock with more than enough HP to offset any drag from aero. my 71 cuda is one of my best handling A class cars. i have PB on 3 different tracks with it. just not the nurb… i never run aero there in A class and will spend hours trying to keep from it in S class. my A class ford gt i got up to 196 mph at the end of the long straight on lap 2 and the same car in S class will hit 208. my biggest problem at the nurburgring is putting down a clean lap. i’ve gotten as far as the 2nd to last turn just to muck up my clean lap. im not afraid to admit i cussed the game up and down but truth be told, it just wouldnt be a nurburgring run for me if i didnt bounce over a curb at least once
