I think what Horizon has going for it is there are multiple ways to collect the required points, with a bunch of different activities outside of races, and you can usually buy the car from the Auction House (though not always, for inexplicable reasons).
It definitely easier/faster than for Motorsport.
Now on a side note, I think those cars, regardless of the game, should be added to the store, even if they do it at the end of the month. It shouldn’t be possible for a paying customer (and this includes GamePass subscribers) to miss content.
With regards to FOMO, I’ve gotta be honest, I don’t get it tbh. The game has over 500 cars of which there will be 400 cars I probably won’t drive. There’s probably a dozen or so cars in the car pass which I paid money for I won’t use.
However- Removing content in a game so void of content is ridiculous- makes no sense whatsoever.
In previous FM games, they’ve pretty much been dead after 12 months, usually some paid for DLC and paid for cars. They didn’t add new cars for free hardly ever, this time they do and it’s a bad thing? All they want in return is for you to play the game, so they get paid out of the game pass pot. Seems like a pretty sweet deal considering what we’ve had in the past.
So with most FM’s dying pretty quickly and with the growing expense of game dev, they’ve obviously looked at FH5 player data and wanted to replicate it, it makes perfect sense to incentivise players to keep playing, having reward cars permanently available, removes the incentive.
So basically, if you don’t enjoy playing the game, you’re not really missing out on anything. So what is there to frightened about? If you play MP exclusively then you still can with the over 500 cars available and none of the reward cars have been OP so you’re not at a disadvantage either.
None of this is to say that the game shouldn’t have launched with more content to begin with and some might say cars, but in reality there’s plenty, and it’s overall roster, especially race cars is if not the best in class it’s not far off. Yes we’re missing SUV’s, formula E and Indy and I get that some people miss them, so this is just my opinion, not to be taken as a fact.
I launch FH5 for 1-2 hours per week and it’s enough to obtain every exclusive new car (at least in recent months). And usually I can achieve it with completing no more than 3-4 races, as there is wide array of other activities to choose from. I’d like to have similar choice in FM.
I’ll admit, if I’d have to choose between time-gated free cars or ridiculous amounts of DLCs (as was the case of our beloved FM4 which received nearly 200 paid cars over nearly 500 cars in base game) and nothing between, I’d opt for time-gating instead of paywall after all.
I thought the Aston Martin AMR was ‘over powered’ or at least a car you will often need to be competitive in rivals/MP? And the reward car here is another Aston Martin…
Honestly why am i being made to focus and worry about this stuff, on a game that can already feel a bit grindy on occasion. I did the last two single player events. Now i really feel like i’m hoping for a new game to come out so i can put this down for a while
Well the AMR is basically a meme tbh but yeah i your point on that one. Suppose my point is, having or not having these reward cars is not likely to change the game (or your enjoyment of it) in any substantive way. The actual removal of content does.
Take the fear out of FOMO because there’s literally nothing to fear. No way would I play any game I didn’t enjoy for something so worthless (literally) your time is infinitely more valuable. It’s crazy how the human brain works sometimes and it seems game devs have tapped in to it, just like retailers do on Black Friday.
The older games also had unique and rare cars that weren’t in the base game, VIP content or DLC packs.
Unicorn cars were only attainable via Turn 10 gifting them out to individuals (and occasionally the entire community) and couldn’t be unlocked through gameplay at all.
Occasionally one would show up on the Auction House, but most sold for the max credit value and were essentially bait to catch cheaters.
You didn’t pay for the reward cars. The car list was published before the game launched. That’s what you paid for, anything else is a reward for playing the game on a regular basis.
Technically the car list isn’t published before release, not for the Car Pass. Never has been.
You do get told how many cars you can expect to get and when you can expect to get them (for Forza Motorsport it was something like 30 cars, 1 every week), but the actual identities of the cars are unknown until they’re announced post-launch on a regular basis.
Any Car Packs you get with Premium Edition, those do get detailed in full however.
Yes, base game’s cars are revealed ahead of launch, because if Turn 10 don’t do them, the first video after content creator embargo will be a scrolling list of the Autoshow anyway.
This is why when we were promoting EA SPORTS WRC, I pushed hard for the car list to be revealed as early as possible. We managed to get it out 2 months before launch and it’s still the most viewed article on the game’s website today.
I’ll just set the game to the highest difficulty, and just do my best. I don’t care if I don’t place first. Ain’t like I’ll be able to show off the gold trophy count.
look, its obvious the game is set up to steer us to play in a certain way. The way they do this is to make one style of play feel naturally rewarding and ideally thrilling, and another style of play less rewarding and actually a bit empty. This is basically what a ‘game’ is!
The style of play they want to reward now is too grindy for me, way too grindy (and for others).
