24 Hours of LeMons

Hi folks,

Couldn’t decide whether to put this in General Automotive or Off Topic, but:

Has anyone ever taken part in a 24 Hour of LeMons race? I’ve signed up to be a driver for the June 21st/22nd event at Buttonwillow, CA, but have never done any IRL racing before. Just wondering whether any forum lurkers have participated and have any hints or tips?

There was couple videos on Motor Trend Channel in Youtube.

Mostly what happened to them in LeMons Racing… but you might find something helpful from them.

I don’t mind missing the 2.4 Hours of Nurburgring challenge …

I’ve wanted to participate in a LeMons race, but I checked a while back and had nothing within about 500 miles of me. I discussed LeMons with some friends a few years back, hoping they would participate, but their concern was that, from what we read, it’s a bit too childish. We read somewhere that participants could vote on sending a rival car to the crusher, or something like that, and they didn’t want to be running the race and then get voted to go to the crusher. Maybe nonsense like that is supposed to take place after the conclusion of the event, but stuff like that had them worried. So, thus far, we haven’t yet participated.

Sorry to be late in reporting back, but:

I had a freaking blast! :slight_smile:

They don’t do car crushing anymore - http://blog.caranddriver.com/this-history-of-the-peoples-curse-or-why-lemons-doesnt-destroy-cars-with-excavators-anymore/ . There is a definite mix of in-it-to-win-it teams and in-it-to-have-fun teams. On the track the racing is real racing. In the pits the operations are real repairs/fuelling/desperation. After the checkered flag the atmosphere is real social.
