I once said on this forum that even though I suck at drifting, the Forzathon drift challenges usually have a low enough target that even I’m able to get them. In fact, I think I said something to the effect of “even I can consistently get 10,000”.
I want to be clear, that was not meant as a complaint. I was hoping to reassure others who were having difficulty with the challenges that the targets were not out of reach, and in fact, the devs had masterfully found a ‘sweet spot’ where the target was just hard enough for people like me who suck at drifting, and maybe don’t even like it very much, and only do it for Forzathons. I was not complaining that the target was set too low, and wasn’t enough of a challenge.
But when I logged in this week, and saw that they wanted us to get 20,000 drift score at Maple Valley, I was a little concerned that they’d misunderstood my statement, and decided to raise the bar. (I totally got it, by the way, but that’s not my point)
Maybe I’m reading too much into it, and they really did just want to have a Forzathon with a 20,000 drift score. I don’t imagine the devs are taking anything I say too seriously. I’m just one voice in the crowd, right? Surely they wouldn’t raise the target just because of an offhand statement I made that the targets were well within reach. Maybe I’m just being paranoid.
If your intention is to give actual drifters a real challenge, then I guess that’s fair. I hope they pick a lot of beans. But if you’d misunderstood my statement as a complaint that the drift challenges weren’t challenging enough, then please, allow me to apologize for not being clear.
I’m a drift enthusiast, and I find myself in great discomfort drifting in Forza Motorsport 7 with a controller or wheel. The physics don’t like it, and the controls dislike it even more; that is, if I plug in my wheel, I can manhandle the cars and drift ok, it’s not fun though. Drifting is supposed to be smooth and graceful. Not ninja-handsing my wheel to death.
Powerful car (maxed out Dodge Demon), AWD, differential: acceleration 100% - deceleration 0% (front and rear).
I’m not a great drifter, I don’t use drift suspension and I even drive it with traction control and stability control.
I still scored 30,000 on that one.
Shouldn’t be too hard if you do it on the full track and not short
I hate being forced to drift and probably wont even bother with it since the end reward is only credits anyway …and since i already have over 60 million they are pointless
They said in the last livestream that they were intentional making some the (at least drift) events harder, knowing that not everyone would be able to do them. They said something to the effect of, “Just skip this one if you don’t like drifting. If you do, you have a challenge.”
That’s fair. I didn’t see the live stream. But if that’s their intention, then fine.
I’m mostly being cheeky. I found the 20,000 target mildly frustrating, but still within reach. Give me an enticing enough prize, and I’ll probably take a shot at it regardless of the target.
Thankfully, it was Maple Valley. If you gotta do a drift challenge with an insane target, at least it’s a nice long track with plenty of ideal curves. And one that I’m somewhat familiar with. Ironically, I did better with my GT-R Black FE than I did with the Silvia FE with drift suspension. But then, I really don’t know what I’m doing.
I tried but finally just gave it up. Before the FFB update I could have easily done 20,000 and I HATE drifting. But since the update, along with the settings I am using, drifting just baffles me now. And since I really like the stings for racing, I am not changing them to do something I HATE to do. So skipping drifting events from now on.
On a side note, if Turn 10 decides to hide the Fiest FE and 2016 Civic FE behind drifting events, I just might go Nuclear.
