The 1993- late 2001 versions were all Group A cars, not WRC cars, since WRC meant : World Rally Car, and all Evos from the start up untill the Evo 6 were all running under the old Group A rules, it wasen`t untill the new Evo 7 arrived in 2001 that Mitsubishi ( unsuccessfully ) made the jump to build a WRC car, this was launched in the end of the 2001 Wrc season, and ruined Tommi Mäkines chances of a 5th drivers title, due to it being overweight, have very poor handling, and also Tommi Mäkinens big crash at Corsica, which injuried his co-driver Risto Mannisenmäki which meant that Mäkinen had to use 2 different co-drivers for the next 2 rounds of the championship, which was not ideal.
In the final round in Wales, he hit a rock and broke the front suspension on the first forest stage, ending his rally.
