Mercedes 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé

Officially the most expensive car in the world, the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe was the road-going version of an F1 car, not unlike FH5’s cover car, the AMG One. Developing 310 PS, the SLR Coupe was capable of speeds over 290 km/h. Both of those numbers were actually larger than the doble championship-winning F1 car, as the engine had been bored out for the 300 SLR racing car the coupe was based on. The SLR won the 1955 Mille Miglia and also took the honors in the World Sportscar Championship, beating the dominant Ferrari. The Italians would dominate the sport in the 50s, losing out only twice, to the 300 SLR and to the Le Mans-winning Aston Martin DBR1 in 1959. Mercedes might have dominated the sport like they have recently in F1 (ignore this year, they’ll be back), but were already looking to withdraw from racing when the 1955 Le Mans disaster happened, which made the decision for them.
